Involvement of Bone Morphogenetic Proteins (BMPs) in Ovarian Function and Infertility

چکیده
Advances in assisted reproduction techniques and the treatment of diseases known to be correlated with infertility such as polycystic ovary syndrome and premature ovarian failure require a better understanding of ovarian physiology. Despite the enormous quantity of information produced over the last two decades, the mechanisms controlling follicular development are not fully understood. Ovarian function is regulated by interactions between gonadotropins, follicle stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone and local ovarian factors such as inhibins, activins, bone morphogenetic protein-15 (BMP-15) and growth differentiation factor-9 (GDF-9), all members of the transformation and growth factor(TGF) superfamily. There is evidence of a functional ovarian BMP system with countless genes involved in normal follicular development and in fertility. The present review summarizes the ligands of the TGFsuperfamily, their receptors and signaling pathways and discusses the ovarian functions of the BMPs secreted by the oocytes as critical regulators of

Oocyte–somatic cell interactions in the human ovary—novel role of bone morphogenetic proteins and growth differentiation factors
BACKGROUND Initially identified for their capability to induce heterotopic bone formation, bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are multifunctional growth factors that belong to the transforming growth factor β superfamily. Using cellular and molecular genetic approaches, recent studies have implicated intra-ovarian BMPs as potent regulators of ovarian follicular function. The bi-directional comm...
متن کاملBMPs and BMPRs in chicken ovary and effects of BMP-4 and -7 on granulosa cell proliferation and progesterone production in vitro.
Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) and their receptors (BMPRs) are now known to have important roles in mammalian ovarian folliculogenesis. This study determined the expression of the mRNA encoding for BMPs and their receptors in the chicken ovary and explored possible roles for them. The expression of the mRNA for BMP-2, -4, -6, -7, and BMPR-IA, -IB, and -II was determined and quantified by a ...

متن کاملThe Dual Role of Bone Morphogenetic Proteins in Cancer
Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are a diverse class of molecules with over 20 growth factor proteins that belong to the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) family and are highly associated with bone formation and disease development. Aberrant expression of various BMPs has been reported in several cancer tissues. Biological function studies have elicited the dual role of BMPs in both cancer...

Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) and the growth factors (GDFs) play an important role in ovarian folliculogenesis and essential regulator of processes of numerous granulosa cells. BMP15 gene variations linked to various ovarian phenotypic consequences subject to the species, from infertility to improved prolificacy in sheep, primary ovarian insufficiency in women or associated with minor subf...
